Got to do with fuel "distribution" considering mixture has further to go to
reach 1 & 4, most likely, considering one
carb on a relatively "longish" intake
manifold.
So, with this system you have the "option"
of tuning according to your driving style.
If you're a leadfoot and use high rpm's most of the time, "tune" to cylinders
1&4.
with respect to spark plug color, and 2&3
will appreciate the slightly rich mixture under such circumstances as there is
no
water jacket cooling between them anyway.
If you drive more conservatively using half
throttle settings and less than 4k most of the time, or spend little time
cruising at 4k
or above (limited access highway type stuff),
they you can afford to run 1&4 slightly on the lean side while tuning for 2&3
in terms
of spark plug color (which is where you seem to be now).
