Mike,
That would be correct if he was keeping the stock block-mounted oil filter, and
that's how the factory did it. However, Larry asked about how to plumb it up
using a remote mounted filter. My preference is to filter the oil first,
before it goes to the cooler to keep any crud from collecting in the cooler.
Keep in mind that on the A-series the oil flows from the back of the block
through the external metal oil pipe to the oil filter, then into the main oil
gallery feeding the bearings etc. When you use an external oil filter, you
replace the oil filter housing on the side of the engine with an adapter
fitting to hook your oil hose up to.

The cooler should be spliced into the metal oil line that goes
from the filter into the rear passenger side of the block near the oil
sensor correct?
