Gerard,
You will need to enable TCP/IP on both machines. This is probably already
done on the windows box. Settings can be found under network adapters -
protocols
The next thing is to assign a static IP to both machines to allow them to
talk on the same subnet.
For one machine try
IP:192.168.1.100
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
For the second
IP:192.168.1.101
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
This is also found under the TCP/IP settings
You should now be able to use your cross over cable to make both machines
talk.
To test this form the Windows machine click start-run and type cmd
On the command window type ping 192.168.1.101 to ping the Mac box.
For the file sharing I am not sure the best way to do a mac. Maybe there is
a Samba option that can be used.
