Hello spridgets,
as i pull away from a stop sign, slightly turning the wheel,
CLANG!
What's it mean? besides bad news?
i feel a slight vibration at low speed (about 15 -> 20 mph) then it
goes away....
drove up to the indian reservation (60 miles) to get fireworks, (not
firewater, not firewood)... down the freeway, 70 ->75 mph, no
problem, right around 4k rpm. (5 speeds are wonderful!).. off the
freeway, down the state road, no problem. got to the stop sign,
turned left, CLANG! and a low pitched whirring sound, then a slight
vibration, .. then it seemed ok... .. .. got to the fireworks,
checked out the car, .. front end seemed tight. went forward and
back,.. occasional CLANG!.... didn't want to be stranded, got in
drove a few miles to a parking lot.. ... did tight circles right and
left, couple of figure eights... no problems, no wobbles.. .. pulled
out of the lot .. CLANG! .. figured what the heck and headed for
home... drove 60 mph all the way.. no problems.. maybe a low speed
vibration, a little whirring sound, but nothing significant.. got
the car in the garage, lifted up the front end and did an
inspection... nothing obviously bent, broken, loose or out of place!
.. so what's the CLANG? ..
U - JOINTS? if it were my old rabbit i'd a guessed the CV joints.
here i thought broken king pin? .. don't see it. steering is tight.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
what to check?
