Exactly, Chris...

(Knowing WHICH screw to tighten)

Incidentally, I got better mileage with my
PO'd Vizardized 1340 A-Series (VP3
cam = about a Kent 286) with 45 DCOE
than I did out of my previous (healthy) stock 1275, at normal 65-70mph
limited
access highway cruise speeds.

This was with the normal ribcase 4 speed
and 3.7 diff. It got a little less than stock
in town driving, which is not surprising as
back then I "drove it like I stole it"!

I was also utilizing an 11.0-1 compression
ratio though, considering I had CAM2
112RON available at reasonable prices
back then and a couple of gallons mixed
with 93PON unleaded would put me in
the 100RON category.

With today's "female" octanes,
anything over 9.5-1 puts you into
the pre-ignition/detonation range unless
you limit ignition advance rate....which is
counter productive! :(

You can't really run the high compression
ratios we could back when leaded fuels
were readily available at reasonable prices, and "hairy" cams thrive on
higher
compression ratios (most definitely in
normal street driving) considering their poor cylinder filling
characteristics at lower ("off" cam) rpms.

And of course, the higher compression
ratio speaks for itself when it comes to
fuel economy once the engine truly
"comes up" on the cam at highway
cruise rpms.

Oh, well....as long as it's running reasonably well.....what the hell!!
:):)
