There was an easy half through the Rockies? Actually the difficult
"part" was the Sierra Nevada mountain range, but I guess from where you
are that would be close enough to the Rockies. The Chinese worked from
the west and never even got into the Rockies, they stopped in Utah to
wait for the bunch of ex-potato farmers from over your way. When they
built the transcontinental telegraph line there where two crews one
Chinese and the other Irish, both with 100 men, setting the poles. At
the end of the first day the boss asked the head of Irish gang how many
poles they had got in the ground. The Irishman stuck out his chest with
pride and said "five sir". The boss couldn't believe what he had heard,
"why the Chinese installed five hundred but your boys could only do
five?" "It is not fair" said the Irishman, "the stupid China men left
two thirds of each pole sticking up out of the ground."
                Crash

Maybe you should give back your transcontinental railway - the Chinese
built most of it - or at least the difficult half through the Rockies.
