unions will defend any member regardless
of their culpability.

So will managment, American being a
prime example, Jay.

Many years ago, a pilot was fired for
"turning around and coming back" in
circumstances of freezing rain, citing
unsafe flying conditions.

His bosses (right up to Eagle's CEO) fired
him. He took them to court with the help
of the union. As his professional behaviour was in accordance with gov't
Federal Air Regs. and his boss' orders
to "go back out" (or be terminated)
were in violation of same,
the pilot won a multi-million dollar judgement against the firm.

Eagle's CEO "retaliated" by making a
public statement to the effect the pilot
should have been fired anyway, as he
had lied initially on his employment
application, in that he had previously
used drugs prior to applying to AA and
did not so state on his application.

Well, this was true. Only one problem.
The "offense" had occurred prior to
the pilot turning 18. This information
was contained in a legally "sealed
record". Of course, now the pilot's
professional reputation was ruined.

The pilot sued again accordingly, and
again, won a judgement against AA
(AE, actually) for again, millions, against
AE and the government office that had
released this info.

Guess what. That CEO who cost his
company a fortune through his errors...
he remained!!!! He was CEO of AE the
day I retired! :):)
