Hate to disagree with you Cap'n, but here is my view on things.
#1. I have a good friend that used to work for General Dynamics in Ft.
Worth when it was still just G.D. I was at his house one Saturday night,
talking a little about our respective jobs. Some of his friends have
worked for me (I am a hard ass, if I am paying you to do a job, get off
yer butt and do it) and they had told him about the experience I am sure.
He is telling me that when he goes into work on Monday, he will work a
bit, then wander on down to the break room for a soda and a snack. If he
wants to stop and chat with Joe Blow about his weekend, he will. If his
boss has the nerve to say ONE WORD to him about it, he will just file a
grievance against him. He is protected by the union, and if he doesn't
want to work, he doesn't have to.
If one person at a place does this, and gets away with it, it isn't long
before others follow suit. I guess that explains why GD is now Lockheed
Martin............
#2. Some of you may know, I work in the kitchen cabinet industry. Part of
our lifeblood is doing the large expos, much like the one they had in Lost
Wages Nevada a few weeks ago. Chicago is another popular venue for
woodworking shows. We spend weeks getting displays ready, put together,
decorated, and ready to set up. BUT, in Chicago, you CANNOT set it up
yourself. You MUST hire a union carpenter to put up a display he has never
seen, correctly. If he f*cks it up, you still cannot correct it, you MUST
pay him to come back until he gets it right. And guess what, he isn't
working as cheaply as our own folks, who KNOW what it should look like,
do. Lord help you if you have accent lighting on any of your display. If
you do, can you use your own Wal Mart extension cord to power your booth?
NO!!!
You now must RENT their cord, to the tune of $300 A DAY!!
Yeah Bob, I really see the need...............
