I have heard from someone that the Rivergate kit assumes that you are
putting in a 1275 and is not engineered for the 948. Something about the
clutch, I think. I don't know about the MorissService conversion from Paul
A. I would definitely recommend that you give Bill Perry a call and ask him
specifically about using his kit on a 948 before going any further.
IMHO, The only reason for keeping the 948 is for the sake of originality,
and the 5-speed pretty blows that away all by its lonesome ;-) Maybe you
should mothball the smoothcase with the 948 so that you can put both back in
as a package when you need to go for concours.
