No, Charles...
It is not trivial at all. I want to know the
"true" temp. of only the oil in the sump
and not everything else around it so
your point is well taken my friend.
I was sort of hoping their might be
a setup wherein an electrical sensor
O==<------------sender----------gauge
could be fit over the threads to the oil plug, to sit between
the plug and
the pan.
The engine is new of course and I
dislike the idea of pulling the sump off
a brand new engine....especially when
it doesn't leak!
I was a little surprised to see only a
mechanical set-up when I went down
to Nisonger to pick something out.
Figured for sure they'd have something
electrical...wrong!!
But now I am beginning to consider
a vacuum gauge instead, considering
advice from all concerned, most especially by a fellow lister who uses
one on his street machine and sees
nothing more than an oil temp reading
which always matches the water temperature.
Now if I were racing, I'd want both of
course but, I'm not. It's a simple Cooper
"S" spec. 1293 (albeit, well built!!:)
So, I'm thinking a vacuum gauge would
really be more useful in my case.
Your thoughts, oh experienced one?
