Norm,

All A-series have a scroll seal at the rear main. There are severel issues
related to leaks from the rear of the engine, not all of them having to do
with the scroll seal. If the oil pump cover is not sealed well or if your
read mounting plate gasket is poorly sealed, you can have leaks there too.
There is also a procedure to make sure the half moon seal (block half) is
properly installed. Also, are you sure all your crankcase vents are clear
and working properly. Negative pressure assist from the manifold is a
necessity also, especially if you suffer from too much blow-by. I'll dig up
and old email I wrote about some of the procedures and forward it. Maybe
someone that saved it could post it too.
