While it's important for the rotating assembly to be balanced, remember
that is *is* balanced right now. It's not that hard to rebuild it if
you're mechanically inclined enough to maintain things that have tight
tolerances. I've seen decent wrenches screw it up, but I would risk it
myself. The common failure of do it yourself rebuilds is the oil seal,
not life threatening to the turbo.
Not knowing what type of turbo, you'll probably need a special wrench
to get the wheels off. Besides getting back together the way it is now,
it's not bad. I think there would be some reason for the rebuilder to
want you to not take it on yourself.
