ya know now that i think of it that hole looks like it was done by metal
munching moon mice!  (ref. rocky and bullwinkle)

it's an easily fixed hole but unexplained as to why it was there.   it would
make doing hammer and dolly work very easy.  but so would spot welding on some
small pins to use to pull the skin so you could work the skin smooth.  and
that would end any need for such an intrusive method!
