Yep.
They call them Blue laws, evidently some time around the 1920's it was
obvious that if people kept buying demon liquor and fast cars ect on Sunday,
the whole thing would be shot to hell. It has actually improved. I can
remember being young in the 70's and 80's and stores would have to rope off
even the ladies dainty things, such as panty hose ect. (this was in North
Texas however.) I understand that it was pretty endemic to the south. I am
not sure how pervasive it may still be. But it has been everywhere I've
lived since I can remember.
