Is anyone out there running the racing clutch from Datsun? the price is
rather high compared to the stock unit, but I'm already starting to get some
clutch slip and I just put in the disc in January. I don't dump the clutch
while redlining or anything at all like that. Truth be told, I'm actually
rather conservative these days compared to my clutch-smoking youth. ( I
know, I know....they're very hard to get lit.... ba-doom boom!)
I'm running the Datsun 210 pressure plate and clutch disc on the modified
1275 flywheel with the 5-sp conversion from Paul A. Motor is modified and
turbocharged.
My observation is that while it holds fine under normal acceleration, if I
push it into the boost zone (anything over 2-3lbs of boost), the surge in
acceleration will break the clutch free. Backing off allows it to hookup
again and perform normally. Have I got too much torque for a Datsun stock
clutch or is the usual rear main seal leakage finding its way to the disc?
If anyone has anything good to say about the racing set-up, I'll probably
put one in on the next engine pull.
