Daniel,
I believe that some auction sites (Freeserve one at least) have a
system whereby if a bid is recieved wthin 2 minutes of the closing
time, then 10 minutes is automatically added to the deadline.  This
makes it quite difficult to put in last gasp bids like this.
I havn't used it, but my son has.
