The rivergate 5 speed conversion (using the datsun 210 tranny) uses a custom
clutch disk. A BMC disc but with datsun splines. The Morrisservice (Paul A)
kit machines your flywheel to accept a datsun clutch. So aslong as Nissan
stays in bizness, you are OK.
I asked Rivergate about this awhile back. Bill Perry promptly replied:
"The clutch disc used with the Rivergate kit is $89. A clutch shop could
fabricate one, by using the hub from a Datsun clutch and the disc from a
Sprite. But finding a clutch shop to do custom clutches is getting harder.
The clutch disc will remain available from us. My son is 28 years old and
he expects to make his life's work in this business. "
Anybody know anything about Speedwell's 5 speed kit? Uses a dastun 510
tranny. Speedwell claims no modefing or cutting needed. Seemed like they
were a bit bigger when I was tripping over them recently while I was hunting
for datsun 210 gearboxes. I might fire them off an e-mail.

Tom,
You sure got my attention! Whose 5-speed conversion does not
lend itself to clutch replacement? I thought all the US suppliers
used off-the-shelf clutch disks, native Spridget pressure
plates, and off-the-shelf forks. Please let us know so we
(who are impacted --ouch!) can take steps NOW.
