If you want light, go with the starlet and prepare for some serious
modifications. I personally can't believe the AE86 weighs as much as it
does.

My MG midgets weigh in at only 1650 lbs loaded (oil, gas etc..) in stock
trim. The 74 Midget is getting a 20v 4ag most likely this summer. To go
along with the 4ag, it's basically going to get a AE86 GTS drive train (rear
axle, discs on the back, LSD, and a T50 5 speed gear box. I am also
seriously considering a turbo and a nice 341B to control everything but I'm
not sure if the t50 gearbox can handle it. The stock engine puts out 65hp
and it's already really fun to drive, so with 150+ with out the turbo, its
going to be real fun! Now with the turbo, it might just become scary, and
traction\control is going to be a SERIOUS issue.

Only a t50 gearbox will fit the tunnel. The next tranny that will bolt up to
the 4ag (with custom bell housing) is the supra tranny (W58? something like
that.) and that thing is just going to require way to much cutting to fit.
And cutting into the area where you are supposed to be (cockpit, foot well)
is no good.

Good luck. I say a nice AE86 with a nice 4agze or a 20 valver if you can get
one "cheap". Or if you are real serious, a starlet with a 4age+ae86 drive
train.

Good luck.
