Yes Dave, they can be sandblasted--probably best to use glass beads, that way 
the surface does not get so course.  I like the Rostyle painting mask that I 
bought from Moss for painting.  Its easy and gives you a result that is far 
superior to trying to mask it off and ending up with hard sharp edges.  I 
painted mine, then baked them in the oven at 250 degrees for 30 minutes.
