All you say is good except.... it is not good to use ether on a dry engine 
(has sat long enough to loose the layer of oil in the cylinders).  I agree, 
the car needs fuel quick or you will grind awhile, but a little gas would be 
preferable (not as easy, but better for the car).  If enough time has gone 
buy, it is best to remove the plugs, squirt a little oil in the holes, and 
then turn the engine over w/o the plugs until the carbs have gas.  Then the 
plugs will fire quick and have a new layer of protective oil before the 
stress of running.
