I just thought to look up my result of the National Car Test on my daily
driver. The engine emissions etc. were tested when the oil temp was 67'C.!
So, it would seem that (1), my boat engine is running about normal temp., and
(2) the oil heat range is LESS that the water temp. range.
My conclusion/opinion is that you could certainly use a water temp gauge to
measure your oil temp.
