Ah, shades of my youth.... a '72 GT with a 388 cid small block (350
block, 400 crank and rods, 202's, etc, etc) -- all hooked to a
Powerglide!
Anyway, how did the engine fit? Tightly.... the engine mounts bolted
through the front of the water pump and to the front engine mount pads
used by the '55-'57(low on the front of the engine). These were shaped
like an upside down 'L,' with the leg bolting to a welded pad on top of
the unibody subframe. A set of brackets ran from the back of the engine
to each side. The transmission mount was nothing more than a piece of
square tubing with holes drilled in it and a couple of spacers. Had to
use a short leg water pump, and a radiator with a wider core made, but it
still ran hot.
