Have you considered finding another engine?
I bought a 1275 for $200, it came with manifolds and 4 carbs.
When opened up, it turned out the crank was .010" under and only needed
polishing, the pistons might have been useable too, but I wanted to do a
1380cc job.
I have a question. Isn't a crank surface hardened? I think I remember that
this surface hardening goes deep enough to where you can go.010 undersize,
but any more than that and you have to reharden it. Is this true?
