You may remember my post a couple of days ago about trying to locate a short
in my electrics that keeps blowing the second fuse from the passenger
compartment. I thought I had found the short when I found a wire that runs
between the engine compartment left side and the transmission laying against
the tailpipe. Fuse seemed to hold.
But then, when I started it up this morning, I noticed that the guages yet
again didnt work, and that the same fuse had blown. I think I might have a
clue, though--would like some response if you think it is relevant. I
noticed that when the engine is idling and I hold pliars across the fuse
contacts, that two things happen. First the fuel pump changes pitch from the
louder clicking sound to a lower pitched, muted sound. And secondly, the
engine dies. I am leaving town in the car in a few minutes until late Sunday
evening. I will have to drive it tachless, windshield wiperless, gas
guageless (keep it topped up), and heat guageless. I will have to get into
the tracing for the short next week. But any ideas regarding the fuel
pump/engine behavior would be appreciated.
