Well, my Midget is legal!!! It passed PA state safety inspection with no
problems. I took it to a shop owned by one of our SCCA members. He
specializes in VW, and also dirt track racing, but he's a good guy anyway.
I had him look at the oil pan, which had a stripped bolt. He fixed that,
but the main oil leak was from the dip stick tube. Apparently, when the
car was detoxed by the DPO, they connected the hose from the valve cover
to the wrong place, causing lots of pressure in the engine, blowing the oil
up the tube. All fixed, but I haven't picked up the car yet, so I don't know
exactly where he put it.
I had him check out the brakes completely, because I replaced the entire
system myself. (Just to make sure I got it right!) He said it was fine, and
he bled and adjusted the brakes again. He also adjusted the carb a bit,
so it will be nice to have it running better.
Just in time for winter!
