I am putting my 1098 back together after having the water jackets cleaned
out and a real light hone done on the cylinders. This is obviously a
recently rebuilt short block [bearings look new, crosshatch still in
cylinders]. It has studs in the main bearing caps instead of bolts. What
should the torque be? Use the factory setting for bolts or what?
Second question; what do you suggest for a timing chain? This one looks new
but is pretty loose. Can I use a double row chain from a 1275 instead of
this bicycle chain? Oh, btw, it is "painted" a blood red on the inside of
the block and my bud at the machine shop was real impressed by what ever was
used for this. Anybody know what it is? He hasn't seen anything like it.
