Dear list,
Apologies up front, but someone started this thread
and I have at least 2 cents to spare right now. Please
delete if you like, but if you're following the
thread, are unhappy in your current situation, or are
just curious about what one enthusiast is doing to
fight the apathy...read on. There's a point here
somewhere.
Like everything else that people take for granted, get
complacent about, or otherwise just accept as normal
operations...Clubs are affected by the dreaded "I just
don't care anymores." However, there is usually a core
group that keeps things going so that the real
enthusiasts can stay enthused, involved, and
motivated. These are the people to seek out because
they make the hobby worthwhile.
Has anyone checked the last update date on the PDLJMPR
page? March 20th??? Has apathy hit the very web page
that we claim as our own? Suggestions and input by
this scribe have aparently fallen upon deaf ears.
Point being, we can all contribute something to this
page and get it updated more than once in 7 months.
Even the "Noise in the rear tire area" thread could
help someone if it appearewd on this web page.
I've been through many clubs in my days...depending on
where I was located, I've been a VP, Activities
Director, Rallymaster and member. It's not so much the
club directors or constitution that dictates if I
enjoy myself and my club mates....it's my enthusiasm
and the enthusiam of those I associate with. If
they're disgruntled, I shun them.... and then there's
that core group again. Political posturing never
interested me.
Today, I belong to 1 national club, 1 local all
marques club and I've started my own elite club of
enthusiasts who try our damnedest to live up to the
spirit of Kimber and Healey....The BCDC, (British Car
Driver's Club) is a small group of friends and
enthusiasts who enjoy DRIVING our cars, as they were
bloody well intended...love of LBC's is not enough for
membership. 1 requirement for membership, besides
being sponsored by a current member, is that you have
to sponsor a driving event within 6 months of being
accepted. Does this keep the group small? YES, Do we
have a ton of fun? YES, Do we care if someone in the
group wants to have a political agenda? YES....it's
simply not allowed to be an issue that gets in the way
of enjoying our cars.
To all of you who are suffering from burn out,
overexposure, or what have you, I offer this....take 6
months off...organize yourself and several friends...
and hang out, drive, repair each others
cars...whatever...just stay together and involved with
the cars!!! It's got to be a lot cheaper than therapy
and you just might have a ball on the way...Don't
limit yourselves to British only events...Hot rodders
LOVE the little Furrin cars too. So many people have
had an MG or Sprite, or have known someone who had an
MG or a Bugeye when they were growing up, that's it's
fun just to watch their faces light up when they look
one over.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T ISOLATE YOURSELVES!!!!!
Good Luck to all, and thanks for listening.
