I had an opportunity to Test out my driving skills today in a Twin Turbo
Charged intercooled Jag XJS.... we took it up the Hwy and back to get my
self situated with the car... I am going to Drive the Car for the guy at
our next Land Speed Racing event at Maxton, N Carolina...
the fella built a nice car... Scary fast and to be frank I think it scares
him to the point that he wants a Driver.... and I am fascinated by the
technology so here we go.... WoW this stuff works like stink... Press
the throttle and you have to go back to the last exit to collect your
thoughts....
Understand this fella hasn't built this thing on a lark.... he has been to
Bonneville three times with the car.... setting a record twice at 215mph
and last year at 233mph... with a Spin at 257mph.... ahh yeah this thing
works like stink....
The best I can hope for right now is to give you the basic's of the set up
and after the Meet I should be able to tell you a bunch more about it...
it's a Rodex Aluminum Block with a belt drive and aluminum heads... it runs
around 8.0:1 compression.... and has these twin turbo's feeding a Spearco
Iced water intercooler which feed a single throttle body bent 90 into the
top of a VictorJr intake which has 80lb injectors set at 70+ pounds of fuel
Pressure..
today we didn't go over 14 lbs of boost and I think I got it up to around
170 in 3rd gear in about 1/2 of a mile being semi easy..... He wanted to
see if I would floor the car..... NEXT QUESTION.... but honestly when we
hit 2 on this little run and the rear broke loose at part throttle I
realized why he wanted me to drive it.... 1400hp is a bunch.... the
biggest difference in this car and my race car with a 700hp N/A motor is
that my little 296 has to get wound up to make big Power.... This thing
simply ran like stink from the bottom end all the way up...
okay that is about it... neat story eh.... I am thinking here on the 25th
of Sept I will be able to tell you just how fast it is on a Concrete runway
in One mile...
Ps I packed the twin Parachutes and pulled the releases today... just to
sort out that system in my mind.... a car doesn't even have to start.. but
if it does it damn sure has to Stop and steer... Oh and the Fire Bottles
and Roll Cage where inspected Closely also....
