Tom,
Give the guy the benefit of doubt ...first. Since he is the owner, I
assume, then he may not have done the work and therefore might not know
about it. His help may not have told him. A good shop will appologize and
fix it. Be nice & tell them that you are not trying to screw them, (if you
were you'd be hitting them up for big big bucks). If you get the "I don't
know what you are talking about!" attitude spend $25.00 at the nearest
vend-a-lawter and have them send them a letter. It works. Jaybird

Subject: Mechanic dents my Midget
>I wasn't planning on writing about any of this, but I am between a rock and
a
>hard place.
>
>I picked up my car tonight from my new mechanic. He did all he was asked to
>do, and did it right, was always pleasant, and showed me what work he did
>under the hood. I drove home, and the car was better than when I brought it
>there. I get home, crouch down in front of the car, and stare up the hood
>with the sky reflecting beautifully off the paint. I see two very, very new
>distortions in the hood.
>
>Area 1: directly above the radiator. I pop the hood, and clear as day on
the
>underside is the dent. Area two: directly above the air cleaner. The paint
>broke in both parts, and there are cracks. I can see bare metal. There is
>absolutely no doubt in my mind the hood was closed with tools resting on
the
>air cleaner and radiator.
>
>Sooo, the question is, what do I do? I can call the mechanic, and he can
tell
>me he doesn't know what I'm talking about?I can't actually prove that he
did
>it. I don't want any bad blood with him either, because if the need arises,
>I'd like to go back to him again. On the other hand, I don't feel like I
>should pay for body damage I did not cause. And, since there is the tiniest
>bit of exposed sheetmetal, I do not want my once perfect hood to start
>rusting.
>
>If this has ever happened to you, or if you ever dropped the hood with
tools
>on the engine and it did cause dents, please let me know. This is one area
>above all I do not want to mess around with.
