Jeff, don't be a DCO! - Do it right the first time.

I vowed never to replace a single exhaust system component again after rusty 
chips in my eyes, ringing ears from a cold chisel and burnt fingers from hot 
steel.  I usually wind up tearing the thing up again after several months to 
replace the components I didn't the previous time.

I regret it and curse myself everytime I break this vow to save a few bucks! 
(:-})  I'm not preaching, I have patched stuff up in order to make it a few 
days until a paycheck comes in or the parts arrive.

P.S. Antisieze compound and stainless or bronze nuts will save you time and 
frustration later.

Hi Jeff,

My personal opinion is that you should just bite the bullet and replace the
offending pipe... they are quite inexpensive and if you value your time at
all, it is really false economy to dig that far into the exhaust system to
do a temporary patch on an old rusty pipe that is probably ready to start
leaking in a new spot as soon as you patch the existing leak.

Once you start tearing the old system apart to do your "patch", you will
soon find that the old clamps, hangers, etc. will also need replacement and
you will end up getting frustrated trying to make-do with the rusty old mess.

Just my 2 cents... been there...done that.
