Adrian,

You don't mention which model, but on early cars, typically there is a
single wire under the horn push that connects to a spring loaded contact on
the opposite side of the steering wheel hub. The collar between the dash
and the steering has a copper ring that faces the steering wheel. The
spring loaded contact keeps a constant connection with the ring when the
wheel is turned. This is the hot part of the circuit. The side of the horn
push is grounded to the car through the wheel, completing the circuit when
the button depressed.
