Hi,

I wanted to let folks know what happened with my brakes. I went out and
looked at the rear rubber line, and although it looked ok, I replaced it.
I then bled the brakes and the problem was completely CURED! I was amazed.
Evidently everyone was right about the inside of the hose swelling up and
not allowing the fluid to go back to the master cyl. I never would have
thought of that, and want to thank everybody for all the advice. It really
was great. I was going to look at the pushrod in the mastercyl next, but
this evidently was the problem.

There is one drawback to replacing the old swollen brake hose with a new
one; I now roll backwards when I take my foot off the brake after stopping
on a hill. With the old swollen brake line, I could take my foot off the
brake and take my time with the gas and clutch, since I wouldn't roll
backwards. It was like my subaru with the 'hillholder clutch'. But
although I have to be a bit quicker with the clutch and gas, the increased
acceleration from a stop is amazing. I guess that is a good tradeoff.

Thanks again,

Ric Otte
