The tank on my 78 was loaded with a rusty sludge -- probably 1 inch
deep on the bottom. Enough fine rusty dust made it to the carb to
finally stop the car.....the float bowl was caked with it. So, after
cleaning the tank, repairing the thin spots and holes, I also needed
to replace the fuel pump and lines, and rebuild the carb. I now have
two fuel filters, and the tank was treated with sealer before I put
it back. I don't want to repeat that experience!
