Last night I asked Ron why all my Down flow radiators still work fine,
no leaks. And all of my cross flows, which are several years younger
then any down flow, have leaks.
This is my own personal observation after parting out many more 68-74
Spridgets then 58-67 Spridgets.

Talking heat exchanger design over at work regarding your question as to
why
in your experience the crossflow leaks more typically than the downflow.
Without telling them your question, I sketched the two designs and asked
which would leak more.  Between the group we have some guys who did
nothing
but test heat exchangers for years, and their experience is that on the
liquid side of a heat exchanger corrosion and sediment over time is more
likely to collect in the coils of a crossflow whereas in a downflow it
will
collect in the bottom header, causing fewer problems in the core.  Of
course, flushing things out and maintaining a good mix of anti-corrosive
coolant will minimize or eliminate the problem.   Please forward to the
