Biff,

Unless you have any reason to believe it came off an old LBC, it must be
negative ground, mustn't it?

To verify, you'd want to take the black or brown wire to a battery -ve
terminal, and then touch the other wire on a positive terminal just long
enough to see if it moves rather than burns.
