Dot 3 on this side of the pond is definatly distructive to "natural"
rubber seals of UK cars of the past. We were tought to use dot 4
(Castrol or Lockheed) only because whatever is in dot 3 would swell the
seals and then eat them. I can personally vouch for this problem in the
70s. I still use Castrol LMA only (or silicone dot 5 in the A40) in all
my Sprites. It lasts 6-8 years before the seals need replacing.
Maybe D O T specs are different in the UK. I don't know.
Don't be offended by some of the *rude* listers, I have been dealing
with a few of them for 2 years now.
I have caused a few flame wars on the list myself, if I feel I'm wrong,
I appologize, if I real I'm correct, I fight it until some one proves me
wrong.
All in all I have made many more friends then I have made enemys on the
list. Hang in on the list, don't let the few make you drop from the
list. We can use your wealth of information in our quest for keeping
these dumb little cars running at their best.
Since I know who you are, maybe it would be wise to introduce yourself
to the list. I think this would make the "rude" replyers feel a bit
shallow. You obviously know more than most of us on this list, not only
by hands on expierience but through the vast research you have done.
