Well, the necessity would depend on the condition/age/mileage/etc or the
tranny you get. My opinion: If you're going to put the money and your
hard labor into the conversion, why not do it with a tranny in the best
possible condition, rather than risk having to pull it out again because
the tranny failed? Replace the bearings and synchros and you won't have
to worry about the tranny for many moons.
