Frank,
I put in an aftermarket air-con once and it was a helluvah chore, plus it
filled the engine compartment.
Ever since then I've wondered whether one could stick a home room-size
air-con in a car or van, either in a window or with a duct to take out the
hot air. The 115 ac volts would be the challenge, probably beyond an
inverter on any normal alternator. But a gasoline generator might do it,
though you'd need to duct away the exhaust to outside, and it would be
noisy. This system could even be modular enough to take to your next car,
it would have a generous cooling output, and it would not be especially
expensive.
Now this is surely a Nuts way to proceed, which is probably why it appeals
to me. But I am hoping to find another Nut to try it first. The question
is whether you are up to it.
Let us know how it goes!
Daryl

That includes put in a stereo or whatever you want to do. I'm thinking
about getting Air Conditioning in my car, wonder if I could get Frank to
work out a conversion out of a Mitsubishi for around $50. That way I could
be like the madza and bmw I saw yesterday on the freeway, top and windows
up.
