> Is the black vinyl stock or was it added by a PO?

I assume that it was added by the PO. It was there when I got the car,
and I've never seen another like it before. When I got the car, someone
had glued thick leather on the non-gauge portion of the dash. Then they
had glued black textured vinyl to the leather. I think this was to act
as ?padding? or backing or something. There were alot of holes drilled
and cut into the dash, and a very large 90deg. bend in the passenger
knee area where the DPO (Disturbed Previous Owner) had bolted a radio.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I removed everything from the dash,
sanded it, filled all the holes that shouldn't have been there, pounded
out the bends, and primed it. I krinkle painted the gauge section,
cured it, then re-masked it off. After that, I used spray adhesive and
stuck 1/4" thick closed-cell foam to the (non-gauge) section of the
dash. This smoothed out the dents I didn't do a good job with (I'm not
a professional bodyman) and provided a little padding for the
inevitable knee-bumps. Then, over that, I cut the vinyl and glued it to
the foam.
Looks great, if I do say so myself.
