Happy 4th!!
Went for a short cruise today to get some stuff for the 4th BBQ (course I
took the loooong way). Shortly after I got back I realized I had
forgotten the ice for the homemade ice cream. So I headed out, shanks
ponies, to the Mobil station up the block. Just got out the back gate
when the SU (spousal unit) yelled at me to say a guy with an MG was at
the front door and need some help.
Seems he saw the Midget in the drive and stopped on his long walk home to
see if the MGer could help. Well alwyas one to accomodate we jumped in
the Midget and drove about a lock and a half to where his 76 B was
stalled (Typical for a B heh :-P ). He had been out for a cruise and it
stalled on him as he pulled away from the corner. He was new in town and
relatively new to the MG. I checked thet the fuel pump was working, there
was some spark, the carb piston was free (Z-S) etc. The inside of the
carb was very black like it was running real rich.
When I exhausted all of the easy stuff, including jumping from the
Midget, I took him to his house to get his other car (Honda). We were
going to push his car to my house to get it off the street. I got behind
him and got him up to speed and backed off so he could cruise around the
corner w/o tearing up the bumpers. I had told him that once he was
rolling to try the ol' drop the clutch thing and see if it would start.
Sure enough a puff of black smoke puffed out the exhaust and he was
running. It wouldn't idle but it was running. I followed him to his house
to make sure he got home and then took him back to his Honda at my house.
Never met this guy before but told him about the list (no computer) and
about the local clubs. Hope to see him again (on the road!!)
Made me feel good to help out another MG on Idenendence Day.

In a world without walls or fences, what use do we have for windows or
gates?
