Why not just install a charcoal canister?
Try a few junkyards and see if you can find a junked spridget you can
take a charcoal canister from. Open it up, dump out the old charcoal
and fill it with aquarium charcoal from the local pet shop. A coat of
fresh paint and, voila, brand-spankin' new charcoal canister at minimum
expense.
