I sure would like to hear from some more members on this subject. There must
be someone that has at least attempted to align the steering rack on one of
our cars.  I can't find much info on this subject in the places that I have
looked.  I also have a car with only one spacer (the other has one on each
side) and I did not make a note as to which side it was on when I removed it
months ago. I assume the rack should be placed so that the tie rods are
stright between the rack and the steering arms on the axles but don't really
know.  I might add that I have not yet tried to install to rack on this car
but am getting close to doing so.  I will post a note on anything that I
discover in the process.
