Flipping through my old Road and Tracks, August 1961, "NEW SPRITE 2" on the
cover. They report "No one can deny the Sprite 2 is better looking" (I
could hear my Bugeye wince from the garage). They said (as they did with
the Bugeye) "it offers more fun per dollar than anything..." all for
$1858, including the previously mandatory optional windshield wipers and
tachometer. If you think that price is a bargain, the classifieds had:
1937 Jaguar SS100, reliable performer, $3850
1939 Bugatti Type 57C, perfect, $4500
1953 Ferrari Type 212, Immaculate $3950
1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing $5950 no trades
1948 MGTC $1325
