Omigosh! I forgot to add the part about fruit stands dotting the wayside
(when there is one) where the owners just place baskets of freshly picked
fruit and tropical flowers for passers-by to pay for on the honor system
(like, apple bananas 4 for $1).
Then there's the black sand beach and caves at Wa'ianapanapa (sp?) State
Park, about 3/4 of the way to Hana. The eons of crashing waves there have
taken black volcanic rock and gradually eroded and smoothed it down to
sand; there are still larger rounded stones higher up on the shore, along
with pieces of coral, ground down to sand and round white pebbles. The
cliffs next to it are consequently also black, and covered with large
leafy green vines and coconut palm.
