The bolts, washers and nut are important. Right size and best quality.
But also important in a car that was not built for seat belts (your and my
Bug Eye) would be to put a backing plate of thick metal on the "other" side
of the belt against the car skin, that the bolt goes through on its way to
the washer and nut. This can stop the nut pulling through the metal in an
accident, because it spreads the accident load over a wider area of car
skin. One would want to make sure that the bolt is long enough to go
through the whole lot, and still leave a couple of threads exposed.
Works easier on flat skin.
