I also have used the method Les describes below with success pulling
three Spridget engines. I used two hooks from the ends of some old
garage door springs (made from steel about 1/8" thick). Each hook had
a hole in one end which was about 3/8" in diameter. I bolted one hook to
the front generator mount (actually part of the water pump housing) and
one to the rearmost manifold stud with a pile of washers as needed to
hold the hook tight against the head.

I then slipped the chain over the hooks, having oriented the hooks in
such a way that there was no way the chain could slip off them while
under load.

Although many attachment points could be used, I elected to use the rear
exhaust manifold stud hole and a generator mounting hole...
