Hi Shane,
I would not recommend trying to replace the UJ on the car. There is more to
do than simply removing the old joint and fitting a new one. That alone
would be difficult enough on the car, eliminating endfloat with circlips of
different thicknesses would be all but impossible.
I have an article on correct replacement of halfshaft UJs on my website
here:
http://www.rarebits4classics.co.uk/Hints%20and%20Tips/UJ%20Replacement.htm
You will not need to disturb the diff, but disconnecting the braking system
and dropping the halfshaft is inescapable. Don't be tempted to cut corners
on oversize circlips, without completing this stage your new UJs will tick
as much as the old ones.
Cheers,
Bill.
