Hi Andy,
Reckon you'd have been so lucky on modern Glacier bearings? The original
Vandervells are said to be remarkably tolerant of short term oil 
starvation,
other bearing materials are not so clever.

Maybe I should have further clarified that this was in 1970, with a '64 
Herald whose motor undoubtedly still had its original Vandervell 
bearings! :-)
