Try this first: Take it out and clean and oil the spiral-threaded portion of the drive assembly. If the drive gear cannot spin inwards on the shaft without sticking or binding, it will not engage the flywheel. Also put a drop of oil on the bushing where the shaft comes out of the starter body.
