I am in the process of rebuilding the Stromberg carbs on my GT6. They
are on a 68 and seem to have been used on a fairly limited number of
GT6s they are stamped 3172. I have 3 questions I am hoping someone can
help me with.
1. According to my Haynes Stromberg CD manual were emission controlled
carbs on the 68 and should use a 6W needle and a blue spring. It
seems that normal suspects just carry a 6J needle for 66-68 GT6s. The
Haynes Manual shows the 6J needle with a Natural spring. If all I can
get is a 6J should I also go with the Natural spring? Or are there
better places to get a wider selection of needle?
2. Also, the instructions in the Haynes manual and the repair kit show
the jet coming apart with an o-ring and washers to be replaced. Well,
the jet doesn't seem to want to come apart. Is there some trick? Does
it just pull apart?
3. None of aluminum washers in the rebuild kit seem the same size as
the aluminum washer that is on the top of the jet. The instructions say
it is a compressible washer, but how much can they expand? It seems
like there is a significant difference in size.
Thanks for the help.
